The Monk is an outrider, i.e. a monk who is allowed to leave the monastery to inspect the abbey's property. He is very fond of hunting, has several horses and good hounds. Besides hunting he likes good food, especially a fat roasted swan. He is bald headed and rather fat. His habit is of the best material and trimmed with fur, and his saddle and bridles are adorned with jingling bells.
