In St Denys there lives a merchant who has a very beautiful wife. Their house is always filled with many guests. Among them is a young monk who is on very good terms with the merchant. One day the merchant is about to travel to Brussels to buy his ware. The monk meets the wife in the garden where she tells him about the marital neglect by her husband. After dinner the monk borrows 100 francs from the merchant to buy some cattle. After the merchant departed on his journey, the wife agrees to spend the night with the monk in exchange of 100 francs. Some time later, the merchant stops at the monk's abbey to collect his money. The monk tells him that he has given the money back to the merchant's wife. At home the wife says that she bought fine clothes for the 100 francs.
