Three young rioters in Flanders want to find the person who has killed their friend. They are told that the murderer is a thief called Death who has killed many people in the next town. On their way there, they meet an old man who tells them that they can find death at the end of the lane under a tree. They do not find Death there, but eight bushels of gold instead. They decide to wait for the night to carry it away. In the meantime the youngest is sent to town to fetch food and wine. While he is away, the two others agree to kill him on his return. The young rioter has a similar idea: he poisons two of the bottles of wine he bought. On his return he is at once stabbed and the two murderers sit down and drink the poisoned wine. Thus all three of them found death in the end.
