Tentative course schedule

• 24 April -- Introduction, terminology
• 01 May -- day off
• 08 May -- Morphological processes and problems; what is computational morphology for? Slides from 24.04 and 8.09
• 15 May -- Regular expressions and finite state automata (FSA). First homework, due 22.05.2017 by 10:25am, Slides from 15.05 and 22.05
• 22 May -- Regular relations and finite state transducers (FST). Second homework, due 29.05.2017 by 10:25am. Exercise 2 postponed, no due date at the moment!
• 29 May -- FSTs for real language data. Catalan nouns exercise
• 5 June -- day off
• 12 June -- Theory test (FSA/FST). Room change for this class only: 24.21.03.24
• 19 June -- Xerox Finite State Tool (XFST): Introduction, first examples. Slides about xfst
• 26 June -- Working with XFST: Solving problems. Regular expressions for xfst; Third homework, due 10.07
• 3 July -- Working with XFST: practice. Bambona exercise (don't submit code there...)
• 10 July -- Introducing lexc. Combining lexc and xfst. Forth homework: 1) Bambona exercise with both lexc and xfst; 2) ex. 2 from the second homework: on one side there should be English nouns with tags like ship+PossSg or ship+PossPl and on the other side the corresponding Irish translations. You can use lexc and xfst.
• 17 July -- Further practice with xfst and lexc.
• 24 July -- AP test, Solution for Consonant Gradation from Marvin

Grading

For both BN and AP:

• Complete homework with at least 50% of points (20 out of 40).
• Due dates will be announced and published here.
• You can leave you homework at the secretary of send to me by email.
• Homework that is submitted after the due date does not bring you points.
• Up to 3 collaborators can submit a joint homework, indicating all names on the submission (please submit it once per group).
• Works that are obviously completed jointly while this is not indicated will be marked with 0 points.

For an AP:

• Prerequisite: at least 50% of points for the homework.
• The grade is composed out of the grades for both tests (20 points max for the first test and 80 points max for the second test) + extra points for the homework if it is done for more that 50% of points
• No collaboration is allowed during the test.
