Richard III (1452-85) King of England (1483-85):

Youngest son of Richard, Duke of York, and Cecily Neville, called Crouchback, though there is no contemporary evidence of any disablement. Richard usurped the throne on the death of his brother Edward IV in 1483. He immediately destroyed any opposition by having Lord Hastings murdered and his brother-in-law Anthony Rivers executed in the Tower. By imprisoning Edward's children and overthrowing the dowager-queen, Elizabeth Woodville, and her party he settled the family dispute. Opposition arose from Henry Stafford, Duke of Buckingham, who nominated Henry Tudor as legitimate king. Buckingham was executed and Henry Tudor was exiled. In August 1485 Henry landed at Milford Haven in Wales. He defeated and killed the last Plantagenet at the Battle of Bosworth. Tudor historians invented the portrait of Richard III, the hunchbeack and child-murderer.
