Here you see Thomas Hoccleve presenting his book, De Regimine Principum,  to Prince Henry of Lancaster, afterwards King Henry V. The image displays the typical situation of a medieval author offering his work to a patron.

Hoccleve did nor earn his living as a poet, but worked as a clerk in the office of the Privy Seal at Westminster from 1386 till the end of his life.in 1426.
