- This is my diploma thesis, completed in the summer of 1992 for
a Computer Science degree at Stuttgart
University. It's called Deklarative
Silbifizierung in einem constraintbasierten Grammatikformalismus
- This is a 25-page English summary of the diploma thesis,
appearing 1993 in Edinburgh Working Papers in Cognitive Science,
called Declarative
Syllabification With Applications to German. (The original
Edinburgh copy is here).
- This paper appeared in the KONVENS'94 Vienna Conference
proceedings and constitutes an initial attempt at a declarative
integration of phonology and phonetics, based on joint work with Bernd
Kroeger. While the original has the title Phonologie-Phonetik-Kopplung in einem
constraintbasierten gesturalen Modell, an English translation
by the first author appears as Coupling
Phonology and Phonetics in a Constraint-Based Gestural Model
- This 1995 paper, published in Linguistische Berichte
157 and based on joint work with Richard Wiese, explores a
case of three interacting consonantal alternations in Northern High
German, showing that it is possible to reexpress a rule-based account
in declarative fashion with hard constraints. Deklarative versus
prozedurale Modellierung von Konsonantenalternationen im Deutschen
is, unfortunately, currently not available in electronic form.
- This is a large report on implementing and
testing a specific proposal for inflectional morphology
(Wunderlich/Fabri 1993), appearing in the report series of the
Sonderforschungsbereich 282 as Fabri/Rumpf/Walther/Urbas (1995): A Computational Model of Minimalist
Morphology (74 pp., 264 KB).
- A Strictly Lexicalized Approach to
Phonology (1995) is a dense 6 pp. paper exploring how to fully
lexicalize declarative phonology in a typed feature logic without employing
recursive relational extensions. Topics include self-syllabifiying
segments, a tricky case of morphophonological
interaction in German and general ways of expressing non-local
autosegmental notions. In the Proceedings of DGfS/CL'95, October
4-6, University of Duesseldorf.
